Say What! Communications Founder Launches Debut Book at Packed Stouffville Event
June 2026 — Vandorf, Ontario
Grant Ivens, founder of Say What! Communications marked a significant milestone in his creative career with the launch of his debut book, Why Not! Move Your Idea to a Brand, on June 4th at Harmony Hall in Vandorf, Ontario. The event drew a standing-room crowd of friends, colleagues, clients, and collaborators — many of whom found their own stories woven into the pages of the book itself.
A Room Full of Stories
The venue itself set the tone perfectly. Harmony Hall, built by Kevin Ker — a Guinness World Record holder and the subject of Chapter 15 of the book — provided a fitting backdrop for a celebration built around the idea that ordinary people can do extraordinary things when they back their ideas with courage and commitment.
Guests were greeted with beer tasting sponsored by Wasaga Beach Brewing Company, adorable puppies by Sherry Rupke and the SwissRidge Kennels team, people featured in the book and were treated to a set by DJ Ivar Hamilton, connected to the project through broadcaster and music historian Alan Cross, who wrote the foreword to Why Not! and appears as the subject of Chapter 16.
“The room was full of people who are living proof of the book’s premise,” said Ivens. “Every person there had a story. Several of them are in the book.”
Decades of Work, Sixteen Stories
Why Not! Move Your Idea to a Brand is the distillation of Grant Ivens’ decades of experience as an award-winning designer, brand strategist, professor, and entrepreneur. Built around 16 real-world case studies, the book takes readers through the journey from raw, unformed idea to fully realized brand — using the stories of real people who dared to ask the question at the heart of the book: why not?
The book is organized into a four-act emotional arc, moving readers from the spark of an idea through the challenges of building, the courage required to launch, and the discipline of sustaining a brand over time. It is practical without being prescriptive, inspiring without being abstract — a reflection of the same philosophy that has guided Say What! Communications since its founding.
An Endorsement from the Industry
The foreword by Alan Cross — one of Canada’s most recognized voices in music broadcasting and cultural commentary — lends the book a credibility that extends well beyond the business section. Cross, a long-time friend and collaborator of Ivens, has called Why Not! a book for anyone who has ever had an idea worth acting on.
